Experience the beauty and tranquility of the Garden Island of Kaua`i and Valley Isle of Maui on a botanical garden tour with National Tropical Botanical Garden. NTBG is a network of gardens and preserves and a leader of plant conservation and research in the Pacific. With four unique gardens located across the islands of Kaua’i and Maui there is a tropical escape or botanical tour for all to enjoy.

McBryde Garden

Nestled in the picturesque Lawa`i Valley on the South Shore of Kaua`i, McBryde is the flagship garden of NTBG and a global repository of rare and endangered tropical plants. Visitors to McBryde Garden can explore more than 50 acres of diverse flora on the self-guided tour including the largest living collection of native Hawaiian plants and the brand new Biodiversity Trail that tells the story of plant evolution from 450 million years ago to today. Named ‘Best Public Garden’ in the 2015 Sunset Magazine Travel Awards, McBryde Garden is a botanical wonderland not to be missed. Self-guided tours offered 7 days a week.

Allerton Garden

A garden paradise transformed through time by the hands of a Hawaiian Queen, a sugar plantation magnate, and most significantly by an artist and an architect, Allerton Garden is a one-of-a-kind landscape architecture masterpiece located on the South Shore of Kaua’i adjacent to McBryde Garden. Named one of ’50 Places of a Lifetime in America’ by National Geographic Traveler, the Allerton Garden experience is part garden tour, part art exhibit and entirely unique. Filled with exotic plants, sculptures, water features and many recognizable Hollywood film locations, visitors of all ages and interests will find something to enjoy. Don’t miss the famous Jurassic trees from the blockbuster movie or the Allerton Garden at Sunset tour that includes a light dinner served on the lanai of the Allerton House as the sun sets into the Pacific. Limahuli Garden

Set in a lush tropical valley surrounded by towering peaks sculpted by eons of wind and rain on the North Shore of Kaua`i, Limahuli Garden offers visions of incomparable natural beauty and intriguing antiquity. Step into a place where ancient knowledge blends with contemporary practices. In Hawaiian, the name Limahuli means “turning hands,” which recognizes the ancient Hawaiians who built agricultural terraces out of lava rock and planted cultivars of kalo (taro), an important cultural food crop. Your tour introduces natural beauty and intriguing antiquity. Step into a place where ancient knowledge blends with contemporary practices. In Hawaiian, the name Limahuli means “turning hands,” which recognizes the ancient Hawaiians who built agricultural terraces out of lava rock and planted cultivars of kalo (taro), an important cultural food crop. Your tour introduces you to the rich history of Limahuli Valley and the Hawaiian people, the plants brought by their ancestors, and the rare plant conservation efforts that are happening here today. This unique garden was selected as the ‘Best Natural Botanical Garden’ in the 2015 Sunset Magazine Travel Awards. Guided and Self-Guided Tours are offered 5 days a week.

Kahanu Garden

On the rugged Hāna coast of Maui, Kahanu Garden lies in the storied region of a Hawaiian king, whose awe-inspiring legacy still graces the land. Meet the people of the Pacific Islands through the plants so deeply rooted in their culture. Take a self-guided tour and linger at what intrigues you – plants, archaeological and cultural features. Visit the thatched canoe house and imagine what it might have been like to travel great distances across open ocean not knowing what you would find. Stand in awe of the monumental Pi’ilanihale, a revered lava-rock temple believed to be the largest ancient place of worship (heiau) in all of Polynesia.
