Visiting the North Shore and Haleiwa area is a trademark of the Hawaii experience. There you’ll find a bounty of beautiful beaches to choose from. One beach worth visiting is Sunset Beach.

This versatile destination has a long stretch of sand that gives you and your family a bit of breathing room as you soak up some rays, making it the perfect choice for an all-day beach affair.

Sunset Beach is Good for Surfing

Sunset Beach is ideal for any activity that requires waves, like surfing or body-boarding. Activities that call for calmer waters, such as stand-up paddle boarding, are better suited to beaches like Ala Moana where there are less waves.

Sunset Beach Can Get Rough

Be sure to keep an eye on the little ones, since Sunset Beach is notorious for its choppy waters, especially during the winter time.  The water is less rough during summer months. For your safety, there is a lifeguard on duty at Sunset Beach every day from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

How to Get There and Where to Park

Sunset Beach is outside of Haleiwa Town past Waimea Bay, but if you find yourself at Turtle Bay Resort, you’ve gone a little too far. It is recommended that you park at the nearby Sunset Beach Support Park, right across the street from the beach. There you’ll find ample parking that is much easier to access than fending for parking on the side of the street near the beach. Conveniently, the support park is also where restrooms and showers are located.

Where to Eat

When you start to get hungry, Haleiwa Town is nearby and is packed with a variety of different food options. If you don’t feel like straying too far from Sunset Beach, within walking distance is Seven Brothers, a popular food truck that serves savory burgers and fries. There’s also Crispy Grindz, another food truck, whose menu boasts Brazilian food and an array of refreshing acai bowls. If you’re looking for a sit-down place, Ted’s Bakery is also nearby, home of the original chocolate haupia pie (haupia is a creamy, coconut flavored gelatin that is popular in Hawaii). Traditional flavors like strawberry are on the menu as well.

Sunset Beach is vast and full of possibilities, making it the perfect destination for spending a relaxing day with your family.
