Hawaiʻi is home to thousands of talented artists, designers, makers and entrepreneurs. Shopping local on Oʻahu will introduce you to new neighborhoods to explore and independent, mom-and-pop spots offering unique gifts outside of typical Hawaiʻi souvenirs like plastic lei and dashboard hula dancers (which appropriate Hawaiian culture and are not made here anyway).
Pack some tote bags and walking shoes and discover what this island has to offer with this ultimate guide to shopping local on Oʻahu.

Author of Cook Real Hawaiʻi, Chef Sheldon Simeon's (from "Top Chef) new cookbook Ohana Style comes out March 2026. You can pre-order it now.
"The first [cookbook] had the lens of Hawaiʻi," Simeon said. "So there was a responsibility there. Really telling that story. This next one is just fun with fun recipes."
This includes recipes such as Salt & Pepper Fish Sticks and Okinawan Taco Rice — an Asian-rice-bowl-meets-taco-salad local favorite.
Growing up Hapa in Hawaiʻi, by chef Ippy Aiona, tells his story of growing up in Waimea on Hawaiʻi Island. Recipes come from his family's legacy of owning restaurants in Waimea from his parent's Italian restaurant to his plate lunch spot Iggy's Hawaiian BBQ.
"Growing Up Hapa is my second cookbook," Aiona said. "This one is the book I always wanted to write, even growing up. I always said, my book is gonna be called Growing Up Hapa. It's gonna be a coffee table style book where it's, like, a lot of really beautiful pictures, and most importantly, all my stories of each restaurant and growing up in the restaurant [business] and what it was like."
