Kauaʻi is all about natural beauty, from dramatic coastlines to lush valleys, and many of its top experiences are tied to the outdoors. Summer is a popular time to visit, so booking ahead is key, especially for activities with limited availability. We recommend booking your activities as soon as you book your flights to make sure you don’t miss out on bucket list experiences like Nā Pali Coast boat tours, helicopter rides and snorkeling.

Accommodations

Where you stay on Kauaʻi shapes your entire experience, but we can help remove some of the guesswork.

Poʻipū on the South Shore is one of the most popular areas, known for its sunny weather, great beaches, and resort options. Here are two resorts we recommend:

Princeville and Hanalei on the North Shore offer a more laid-back vibe with incredible scenery, though this side of the island does see more rain. Check out:

If you’re looking for something more central, Kapaʻa on the East Side offers the most affordable accommodations for exploring both sides of the island, with a mix of hotels, resorts and vacation rentals.

Vacation rentals and condos are especially popular on Kauaʻi and can be a great option for families or longer stays.

Rental Cars

Pick one area as your home base. Driving across the island daily can take longer than expected. Most people that like to venture from the hotel choose to rent cars during their stay.

Packing

Now that you’ve booked your accommodations and locked in your must-do activities, the final step is packing for your Hawaiʻi trip. Before you zip up your suitcase, check out our guide to what to pack for Hawaiʻi for smart tips on saving space, avoiding overpacking and making sure you have everything you need.
